Last week at University, we had a demo from the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints. They print with the traditional edo ukiyo-e techniques, materials and even make a point of always working on tatami.
Here you can see the process of traditional japanese woodblock printing.
The colours are mixed from pigments and water, and for the finishing touch they coated the non-printed area in lacquer.

Printmaker from Ottawa, Canada.
I work with lithography, linocut, wood engraving, wood cut and a variety of mixed media. I love working with traditional print techniques by hand and with paper, a material that can be both strong and delicate. For me, the choice of paper also has to do with touch; I want my works not only to appeal visually, but feel good when you hold them. Printmaking lends itself well to detail and a huge variety of aesthetics; it's versatile, intimate and meticulous. I love all aspects of printmaking, including the problem solving that comes with the medium.
Please take a look at my gallery, send me a message or come to an exhibition and see my work in real life.
