Spoon Art Fair

I was very luck to be able to exhibit at Spoon Art Fair, an art fair for young artists in Seoul, Korea. The fair was held from Dec 2-6 at Hongik University.

Here is a shot of my work at the fair, surrounded by some other wonderful Tokyo-based artists.

New Grounds

I am currently participating in the 3rd International Juried Print Exhibition at New Grounds Print Workshop and Gallery in Albuquerque. New Grounds is a non-toxic print workshop, open since 1996.
You can see the accepted works online here.

Note: Unfortunately, there was a problem with shipping (only the second time something like this has gone wrong) and therefore my works are only participating in spirit (online). It's too bad, but I guess there's always a risk when you send work overseas.

Di Carta/ Papermade. 2.

I was invited to participate in an exciting exhibition in Italy, through Facebook of all places! I guess the world is changing.

Anyway, it's a great honour to be a part of Di Carta/ Papermade. 2. opening on December 13 in Schio, Italy.

Holiday time in Canada

So, holiday season is upon us. Which means that many of you will be needing gifts for whichever holiday you celebrate... and what better gift than an original work of art!
I sent some prints to a couple of print sales in Canada, which are great places to find affordable works of art.

Prêt-à-emporter is Atelier Circlaire's annual fundraising sale at their gallery in Montreal, which is now in it's 10th year.

Open Studio in Toronto also has a fundraising sale, Artist Proof Sale, running for 31 years!
You can buy artist proofs, which are prints that are not part of the regular edition, but a very limited number (no more than 10% of the edition) for the artist.

HAN V has ended

Manhattan Graphics Center Mini Print Exhibition

I love mini prints! Especially since I started wood engraving, which lends itself perfectly to the format.

Manhattan Graphics Center's 1st Annual International Miniature Print Exhibition opened this month, with prints by yours truly as one of the honourable mentions.
The show runs until December 1, so those in the New York area should definitely stop by and enjoy the show.

CWAJ 2015

I attended the opening of the 60th CWAJ Print Show tonight.
Held at the Tokyo American Club, it really feels like a celeb affair... and there was even an appearance by the Japanese Empress Michiko!
It's on at Friday, Saturday, Sunday (Oct 30-Nov 1) in Tokyo and then Nov 6-8 in Kobe.
Definitely a must see for all print lovers!

Space NIO Event

水曜日に「日本で学んだ外国人アーティスト」展の特別なイベントに行ってきました。ギャラリートークに少しだけ参加させて頂きました。大勢の人の前に話すのは相変わらず緊張したが、他のアーティストから面白い話を聞く事が出来て、とても良かった！

End of summer print show

I will be taking part in a group exhibition of printmakers at Ginza Kawauso Gallery later this month. The exhibition runs from Aug 25-30, 12:00-7:00 (until 4:00 on the last day). Although I will still be in Canada for the beginning of the show, I will be back in time to attend the reception party on the 29th. Hope to see you there!

Summer!

It's summer... and oh so hot in Tokyo!
Mizenka just wrote a blog post about my new summer print The Real Deal.
As you may be able to tell from reading, it's not too serious a work, but I still put just as much care into this print as all the rest.

In the studio

Hey friends and random visitors.
I have been on a bit of a slow streak of creation since my solo show ended, but I am still in the studio, working away.  Just for fun, I thought I would show you a small litho I am currently working on.
I started with a bright rainbow roll, using colours that don't enter my palette recently. It's been a fun challenge figuring out how to make the piece work.
FYI, I still haven't quite figured it out, but I have an image in my mind.

I was going for an intense sunset vibe.

 Now, currently at 5 layers. The background was printed twice (hard to see in the image, but adds depth to the colours)

CCP 2015 Miniprint Catalog

Now you can see the whole exhibition without even going to the gallery! Perfect for people, such as myself, who do not yet have access to teleportation (or an unlimited stack of airplane tickets).

Lessedra 2015

I have participated in the Lessedra Miniprint a couple times. Miniprint competitions are one relatively easy way to have your prints displayed around the world, and I quite enjoy working in small format.
This year, to my surprise, I was awarded one of the special prizes! It's such a great feeling, as I often wonder if anyone even notices my work.
They have uploaded some photos of the exhibition, jurying and opening on the website. My work is all the way at the very bottom, so I'll also include it here for your viewing pleasure.

IPCNY New Prints 2015/Summer

So, here's some great news!
I was accepted into IPCNY New Prints 2015/Summer show!!!
Wow, I was not expecting that.
Second time this year I can cross something off my list of goals as a printmaker.

The piece is a small wood engraving, which you can see here on the net

But I highly recommend seeing it in person if you are in or around the New York City area.

Center for Contemporary Printmaking Miniprint 2015

I was accepted to take part in this year's 10th Biennial Miniature Print Competition at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Connecticut.
This is probably the smallest format (correct me if I'm wrong) print biennial out there! The max image size is 25.8 cm squared! That's tiny!
My print is a 5 x 5 cm 3 colour lithography titled "Sweet Tooth"
Show opens June 7th.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina

So, I decided to send some small prints to Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Biennale for Miniature Graphics. It seems that my works arrived safely, as well as the digital images of my prints (2 wood engravings and a linocut/litho print). Unfortunately, the photo of me didn't seem to make it, so I am faceless in the catalogue. Oh well! Take a look-see, but note it's a pretty big file.
